[shadow=red,left,300] Hey Everyone~[/shadow]
I guess I probably should have done this a few days ago, around the time of my very first post...instead I just kind of came out of nowhere and started in with my really super long opinions on stuff. So I'd like to extend my apologies to any and all of the RS regulars who might have thought me to be rude.
My only reason, which is not an excuse{ just a reason and there's a difference}~is that I've not been a real regular visitor to very many online bulletin boards in the past... I know you guys are a community and as in any community there are rules and etiquette that is deserving of respect. Looking over some of the threads posted just months ago here in the 'Gloomy Lounge' section, I can see that in the not-so-distant past you have had your share of drama due to people not respecting others. Even though it looks to me like a crisis that has been resolved, I certainly don't want to start off on the wrong foot by not paying attention to how things are done here.
So...hello everyone! I'm Daisy, and I initially checked out RS because it was suggested on the VH1 boards. From what little people have said over there, it used to be different, but VH1 seems to want their boards set up to encourage as little controversy as possible: it looks like they would be perfectly happy if every entry was some new variation on the whole,'Dr. Drew is so wonderful, he Really Cares About People, Oh How Attractive He Is, His Wife Is So Lucky, He Turns Tap Water Into Wine Every Day {but of course never has more than a glass and a half every two weeks}, He and The Mrs. Probably Ended Up With Triplets Without Fertility Drugs Because He Has Magic Sperm, He's Such A Good Person He Does His Job For Free (in fact He Pays Them), If Only Everyone Would Do What He Says, The Entire World Would Be Holding Hands & Reciting The Serenity Prayer, He Shits Belgian Chocolate Covered Gold Nuggets and He Never Needs To Shower, All Who He Touches Are Healed Instantly...
Blah Blah Blah.
I still haven't heard the story of what went on before they changed the boards over there to their current format, and I'd like to. But in any case, this Winter I ended up watching more TV, and more 'reality' TV than usual due to some health issues that kept me in bed a lot. Some shows are just silly, ridiculous fun, though I've noticed that Reality Shows in general pretty much always end up being interesting in ways the creators never intended. Celebrity Rehab though~I watched the first two seasons {in the beginning, just the title of the show itself made me laugh out loud in disbelief. I mean, the very IDEA of it is just...aargh.} expecting it to be like a car wreck that it's impossible NOT to look at and in many ways not being disappointed, but of course there was more to it, and this third season...well, let me condense it down to the purest and simplest elements here: Dr.Drew just kind of horrifies me on a gut level, and when someone or something sets off so many alarm bells at once, it always makes me want to mentally follow every road there is around it and through it to the very end, so that I understand why.
There is something about what Celebrity Rehab reflects in our whole culture, I think, that fascinates the hell out of me. And part of following all those roads is knowing what other people think about it as well. And, of course, there are other reality shows that I like to watch for that reason and ones I like to watch just for fun, and I'm interested in other people's opinions on those as well.
I won't get into a whole bunch of personal information that will bore the hell out of you all {I don't find other people's biographical info boring~that's not what I'm trying to say. I'm just saying, well, I'm kind of boring, and I'm usually the person on the bus who ends up having people sit down and tell me their whole life story, but I don't feel compelled to tell people mine unless we know each other pretty well, and sometimes not even then...I'm better at talking about my opinions and interests than my personal details}, but I do like very much to observe the world and write about it in essays and short stories. I am working on starting a blog~probably I am one of the few people left that doesn't have one, but the 18th is my 1/2 birthday, and I am hoping to have it up and running by then.
Small, attainable goals. We'll see what happens!
I understand that many people have defected here from the VH1 boards...so far I've liked what I've seen here. It seems like a good group of folks. I'm looking forward to getting to know people a bit.
I am, as an old friend said to me the other day, kind of a 'hyper-typer'...it's kind of a nervous tic and I don't expect it from everyone else! I can do a thousand words on any silly subject at all, a blessing and a curse.
I guess that's about it. Nice to meet you {in advance}....
