As much as it might seem like the whole:'Wow~you are certainly pretty passionate about a topic that you, as a conservative Christian Heterosexual, should not have any personal investment in.' is really SUPER transparent~( whether that fixation expresses itself in going out in marauding gangs to do violence to random homosexuals or, as Amber did when Florina went about trying to date women~being really vocally obnoxious and judgmental to the place where the two of them threw down in such a way that it is a miracle that the injuries were not much worse), I think that many people are fooled by that behavior.
Often people, the TV audience in this case, take what they're seeing at face value, which is helped along by the central personalities wanting SO BADLY to believe that they are straight, they've convinced themselves that no one will suspect that they are not as long as they continue to be as abusive as possible to those who are open about their sexual preferences and okay with who they are, that not only are they not gay, but they've convinced everyone else that they are not gay.
As I said, I used to think that this could not be 100% true~mostly true maybe, as most everyone I had ever known who behaved like this (putting all their energy into being abusive to anyone who was out and gay) generally came around to accept their own LGBT leanings, sooner or later. But I was wary of pronouncing something to be true based soley upon the persons who I had known over the course of twenty years~they say no statistical accuracy can come from only taking a compass and using it to draw a circle on a map, your own house being dead center and the circumference of the circle being a mile in each direction, much less picking a hundred people you personally know and having them fill out a questionaire. No matter how fair you might think you are being, it's not an unbiased sample of the population.
Still, there are persons who have selected their subjects in a much more fair and scientific manner, and the results, time and time again, have pointed to homophobic bullies and gay bashers being gay and terrified to come out, thereby being plagued by irrational anger and rage against those who live their truth out in the open. And often, if they ultimately muster up the courage to be honest with themselves and others, the urge to terrorize people based on that which shouldn't concern them (you don't generally find a whole lot of bullies who are okay with themselves and therefore okay with others as long as everyone involved is not being harmed or coerced into anything) goes away, like magic, and suddenly they experience a level of peace that they previously couldn't fathom.
Poor Amber~her boyfriend, who seemed an okay partner I guess for someone with limited expectations, did not appear to have any idea that her entire persona changed the minute he showed up. She instantly reverted to a baby-talking halfwit who behaved like she would allow pretty much any behavior on his part. either he was unaware or he got off on it~hard to tell. fifteen years down the road when she finally decides to become an out-of-the-closet Lesbian, she will frame it to herself and everyone else so that it is NOT about loving women, but hating men for all she has (willingly) endured.
I do hope that those-Florina, hope you are listening-who have had to deal with her running her mouth in this self-righteous way, can keep in mind that she is only at the start of a long, long time in hell. You can walk away, chuckling about how silly and delusional she is, but she has to live with hating herself for the rest of her life and will never be perceptive or brave enough to try to figure out why.
