Episode 1 ran 1 1/2 hours and featured cast introductions of 7 of the 9 eventual CR3 members.
Dennis is one of the great NBA legends, having played almost all of his career during the 80s and 90s on the Chicago Bulls. Along with teammate Michael Jordan and under the coaching of Phil Jackson, the Bulls went on to win many championships during his tenure.
During this time he was also known for his outrageous off-court behavior, going out on the town dressed in drag while dating celebrities and porn stars. Unfortunately, this is where his substance abuse (SA) problems began. Overdoing it with alcohol (ETOH) and other drugs, he often ended up in the arms of the police and with legal issues.
Since his retirement his spotlight with the paparazzi has waned, but his legal troubles have not. He is here at the Pasadena Recovery Center (PRC) due to court issues the specifics of which were not revealed.
DR enters the PRC and is met by Shelly. While in his bedroom for the next 21 days Shelly goes through his clothes and asks him to take a urine. He informs her that he just went. This becomes a minor issue through the episode. It's also apparent that he hates being here and says that he doesn't have a SA problem, and is just here at the whims of the court. She rolls her eyes at this and informs us off-camera that denial is huge with SA people.
DR then meets with Dr Drew. DD asks him standard questions, but DR refuses to answer anything concretely to the point of having bizarre behavior. DD is quite disturbed by this and tells us off-camera that he'll go to jail if he doesn't start participating.
All in all, a HUGE douchebag.

Mindy is a country singing star who at a young age had the double platinum hit "10,000 Angels" Soon after her troubles began. She has a real unhealthy co-dependency relationship with (I assume- it kept getting bleeped) her mother, who is a real fruitcake herself apparently. She got busted for Rx fraud, eventually doing 6 months in jail. Of course she was getting these Rxs for a friend (sure). Also her boyfriend is a real creep who beats the daylights out of her with regularity. He went to jail after conviction of attempted murder to MM. After his release and ready for more pain, MM moves to FL to be with him, and has a child with him. Of course things quickly soured, and eventually she had to give the baby up to her BLEEP who has him to this day. Oh and regarding SA she doesn't have a problem at all. So then wtf are you here for stupid bitch. Denial isn't a river in Egypt, Mindy and Dennis. Man what idiots.
Dr Drew interviews her next and asks what Rx she is currently taking. Oh just some Xanax as needed. What are the pain meds for? Oh those? yeah, my shoulder gave out- I really don't need them DD. well see about that when you go into convulsions in the next episode MM!
She then tells DD about her charming boyfriend and what led up to the removal of her baby to her BLEEP. DD tells her that that must be extremely painful and why are you disconnecting yourself from this pain? Because if I didn't I go crazy. More drug denial from MM which DD looks on with suspicion.

Mike was the bassist for the grunge/metal band Alice In Chains. He left or got fired after the second album (that was in 1992!). Unlike the attention whore seeking ex-drummer for G'n'R Steven "I did so many drugs I had a stroke and now look at my mouth" Adler, Mike understands that his stint in Alice is in the past. Probably doesn't help that their excellent comeback album after 18 years! was released in November.
We see him and his father smoking coke- he does this because he is bored. He is on 100mg. of methadone daily which pretty much now rules his life. Sad. He clearly has a highly dysfunctional and enabling relationship with his father as well.
We go straight to Shelly unpacking his clothes when he reveals that he has an abscess from inter-muscular injection of heroin. She wants to see with the cameras rolling but Mike says no way so they do it in the bathroom. Therefore Dr Drew is told and Mike is put on the examination table where we get to see DD squeezing the pus out of the abscess (so gross) and then bandaging it up. Um, didn't Mike say no cameras?
Next is the one-on-one with DD. IV Heroin? Oh 17 years. Methadone? 8 years. Doing heroin on top of methadone? Oh, just once recently. Not what he said on the home video. Oops. Coke? Daily, 2 grams. Ketamine? Love the stuff! Yeah, I pretty much do everything that changes my mood so I'm not bored.
Dr Drew informs him that he cannot remain at PRC and still be on methadone so he's going to have to detox ASAP. I believe he will not make it at PRC- detox from that much methadone will take months[/u].

MP was a star at 12 in the movie American Graffiti (the basis for the TV show Happy Days) and then a few years later in One Day At A Time. She got fired from the show in the final season for her drug use. Her home life was wildly dysfunctional. Her father, John Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas (California Feeling, Monday Monday), shot her up with cocaine at 17, while by 11 she was drinking and smoking pot. At age 32 she got clean and stayed that way for 10 years. Then her father died and she got injured and was put on pain meds. This started the cycle of using again until she got busted for heroin and coke. Last year she got sober.
In the 1-on-1 with DrD she reveals much of the above and then asks that the cameras stop rolling because she was to reveal the many years of incest with her father. That's some seriously fucked up shit. This show was filmed before her tell-all book came out so DrD had no idea of this. It will be interesting to see how much of this incest she reveals during the show.

We return to see Mike and McKenzie talking outside wondering who "this Mindy is". Mike says that "we've been isolated using drugs so how are we to know who everyone is." He then says she has nice lips. MP agrees. Weird.
Lisa was on America's Next Top Model recently and will be forever known as the out-of-control user of alcohol. Many viewers thought she should have checked into rehab after the show. She says that she regularly uses many substances but feels that she has no problem because she can control it. Here we go again--->Denial!
In her 1-on-1 she details her drug use and says that she has a co-dependent relationship with her BLEEP (mother), who has abused her and her sister since she was 8. In addition, her BLEEP's boyfriends sexually abused her, of which there were many. She again says that her use of alcohol is normal. DrD uses simple logic to show her that her use is not normal.

Heidi will forever be known as the Hollywood Madam. While supplying LaLa Land's celebs with hookers, she started using drugs heavily. Eventually she was busted for prostitution and did 3 years in jail. Upon release, she started dating actor Tom Sizemore who was also a heavy drug user. Their relationship was unhealthy and eventually she testified against him regarding her abuse and sent him to jail. (surprise Heidi! he's due here the next ep.) Currently she lives in Death Valley CA and has 20 exotic birds who were once owned by another famous madam. She says that she is terribly lonely and hates her life of drugs, birds and the desert.
In her bedroom with Shelly she says she is proud to call herself a prostitute- if people want to pay $$ to have sex with her, that's a good thing. <---you're crazy bitch.
Shelly reveals that when she was a heroin/coke addict she too prostituted herself! Wow! such a nice girl, who woulda knew?

The producers sent him to rehab; upon release he started partying immediately. He is at the PRC because he knows he's fucked-up and he wants help.
In his 1-on-1 he revealed that he has a high tolerance, often doing 10 tabs of ecstasy and an 8-ball of coke every night. he's been partying like this for 4 years. He's at the PRC because he has a baby coming and a great girlfriend and he doesn't want to bring the baby into the world to his madness or lose his girlfriend.
