EPISODE 9
Tonight, on Hell's Kitchen, Chef Ramsay presented the chefs with a dish that they swore up and down that they loved... until he revealed that it was a frozen dinner. Maybe if they didn't smoke so much, their palates would be a little more sophisticated. That's going to come into play big time because it's time for the blind taste test of the season. Here are some of the highlights and by highlights, I mean embarrassing moments for the chefs.
Fran mistakes Brussells sprouts for cabbage, thinks pork is roast beef, sweet potatoes are carrots, and coconut is potato! What?! Ed thinks ricotta cheese is polenta, chick peas are turnips, and trout is canned tuna. Jason and Benjamin fail to identify mussels, butter lettuce, and kidney beans. Nilka mistakes Kobe beef for turkey, cashews for pistachios, and eggplant for prunes.
The blue team ends up winning and receives a VIP pass to Sea World and visit Shamu. It seems like an absolute blast! The red team spends their day bringing in food from the delivery trucks to the kitchen. Truck after truck, bag after bag, box after box arrives for the red team and it looks absolutely miserable. To make things worse, some things were delivered for another one of Gordon's restaurants and have to be sent back. Hmmm, suspicious. Seems a bit of sabotage was in play there.
A special delivery arrives for both teams that they open when the blue team returns from their reward. They find out that they'll be able to plan out the menus and the guests will choose which one they'd like to order from at dinner. You would think that the chefs would be enthusiastic about having some creative input but all the red team does is piss, moan, and argue with one another. Don't you just want to tell them to shut up and cook?
Chef Ramsay tries each of the dishes before dinner service and ripped apart all of the ideas that Benjamin came up with. That guy needed his ego knocked down about 50 steps anyway so nobody is complaining. He likes Holli's dishes the best, which are all desserts. He throws aside the blue team's dishes, calling them bland and boring, then tells them he's disgusted with them because they're playing it way too safe.
The blue team chooses to make improvements to their dishes while the red team keeps things the way they were. Smart move? We'll see as the diners pour in to order their meals. The challenge in this dinner service is making sure that both kitchens work together to get food out since diners at the same table order from different menus. Because of the added pressure, Chef Ramsay is in an extra yelly mood tonight, screaming at everybody left and right.
The blue team finds themselves in the weeds and can't seem to keep up with the speed of the red kitchen. However, communication in the red kitchen is just horrible and they have many a dish sent back because Chef Ramsay finds them unacceptable. Most of those bad dishes belong to Fran, who I believe has a permanent spot at elimination.
Both teams lose and have to nominate someone to go home. What a surprise. There's Fran, along with Autumn. After calling Autumn an embarrassment to the blue team, he sends her back to the red team and eliminates Fran.
